    Mr. J. D. Tilney was adopted for the reconstituted Wavertree division in 1948, the sitting member, Mr. V. Raikes, moving to Garston. Born in 1907 Mr. Tilney has for 17 years been a member of the Liverpool Stock Exchange, of which his great-grandfather was a founder. He is associated with many business and charitable organizations in the city and is a lieutenant-colonel in the Territorials.

He is vice-chairman of the Manchester area council of the Anti-Partition League.

He has been president of the Standing Joint Com-mittee of the Combined English Universities.

He is an architect, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Grissell Gold Medalist of the R.I.B.A., and holder of the silver and bronze medals of the London Architectural Association. He was formerly a member of the Surrey County Council and the Wimbledon Borough Council. He joined the Socialist movement when he was 18, and is a founder member of the Labour Party.

He was elected to Newcastle City Council in 1946 and has taken an active part in trade union work.

    Mr. T. Macpherson was elected for Rom-ford in 1945. He is chairman and joint managing director of a firm of produce importers, and was regional port director for Scotland in the war. He is a breeder of Ayrshire cattle at his home at Great Warley, Essex. As chairman of the Thames Passenger Service Interest Committee under the Ministry of Transport he was one of those responsible for the introduction of the Thames water-buses. A keen sportsman, he is president of Romford Football Club.
