    Mr. A. Pickles is the elder brother of Wilfred Pickles, the broadcaster. Born in 1901 he was articled to a local architect, and for the past 20 years has been in practice on his own account. As chairman of the Halifax housing committee he opened last summer its one-thousandth post-war house. During the war he became chairman of the civil defence committee.

    Mr. Geoffrey Bing, who was the first M.P. for Hornchurch, was for a time a Government whip, chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party Defence and Services Group, and chairman of the House of Commons branch of the British Legion. Born in 1909, he is a barrister and was one of the founders of the National Council of Civil Liberties in 1934. During the war he served in North Africa and Europe and was wounded.

    Mr. T. N. Donovan, K.C., aged 51, gained the old East Leicester seat from the Conservatives at the 1945 election. He was called to the Bar in 1924. He entered the Civil Service in 1920 and was for many years at Somerset House. He resigned in 1932 when he began practising at the Bar. In 1937 he was called to the Southern Rhodesian Bar. He was a member of the Denning Committee on divorce procedure and the Statute Law Revision Committee.

He is a native of Hampstead.
