She is specially interested in foreign affairs, maternity and child welfare, and industrial conditions. She worked in a Rochdale cotton mill during a vacation.

Educated at University College, Oxford, he served with the Royal Artillery in France, Italy and Egypt in the 1914-18 war.

During the war he served with Indian regiments.

She fought the seat in 1945.
