Elected for West Renfrew in 1931, he was Under-Secretary for Scotland from 1936 to 1939. Rejoining The Black Watch on the outbreak of war, he was on General Eisenhower’s staff for the final attack on Germany. He lost his seat in Parliament in 1945. He farms an estate at Birkhill, Fife.
