Mr. J. M. Eccles is a flying officer in the R.A.F.V.R., and adjutant of an A.T.C. squadron. During the war he served in the R.A.O.C., and was evacuated from Dunkirk. He was discharged from the Army and acted as welfare officer to the R.A.F. Association in Dudley.

He has travelled widely, and has visited the United States both on a Parliamentary mission and independently to study economic questions.

He was organizing secretary of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, 1936 40, helping to establish hospitals for the Republican Government, and was mentioned in dispatches in the last war. Born in 1904, he went to an elementary school and the London School of Economics.

Mr. A. Creech Jones, 59, has been Secretary of State for the Colonies fro? 1946, and previously was Under-Secretary for the Colonies. He won Shipley in 1935, and from 1940 to 1945 was Parliamentary Private Secretary to Mr. Bevin. From 1923 to 1930 he was an official of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, and has been organizing secretary of the Workers’ Travel Association. He is a governor of Ruskin College and vice-chairman of the British Institute of Adult Education.

Mr. L. J. Callaghan was elected for Cardiff South in 1945 and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in 1947. He was born in 1912. A member of the Inland Revenue Staff Federation since 1929, he was from 1936 until recently assistant secretary. At the outbreak of war he joined the Navy as an able seaman and was later promoted lieutenant, R.N.V.R. He has visited the West African colonies and Russia, and was chairman of the Defence and Services Committee of the Parliamentary Labour Party, 1945-47.

He served in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and the Indian Army during the war. Since 1946 Mr. Driscoll has been closely associated with the growth of the Young Conservative movement.

Aged 48, Dr. Lewis graduated with first-class honours at Edinburgh and London, served in the war in Belgium, Holland, and Germany, and since 1946 has been a lecturer in biology.

Mr. David Grenfell, born in 1881, went to work underground as a miner at the age of 12 and continued until lie was 35. He was appointed a miners’ agent in 1916, was first elected as member for Gower in 1922, and has represented the division since. He was a member of the Royal Commission on Safety in Mines in 1936, and was Secretary for Mines from 1940 to 1942.
