Born on October 24, 1909, he was at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Gon-ville and Caius College, Cambridge. He is Recorder of Merthyr Tydfil. He was assistant British prosecutor at Nuremberg war trials and at the Hamburg trial of Marshal von Manstein. He has been M.P. for Plaistow since 1945.

Born in 1906, he joined the Labour Party in 1930, and for many years has been active in local government work.

He was created a baronet in 1934. Born in 1886, he joined The Rifle Brigade in 1904 after being educated at Harrow and Sandhurst. He contested two by-elections in 1910, and was returned for Clackmannan and E. Stirling in 1918, serving for four years.
