BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. Wilfred Roberts was born in 1900, and is a son of Alderman Charles Roberts, chairman of the Cumberland County Council, and the late Lady Cecilia Roberts, a daughter of the ninth Earl of Carlisle, and was educated at Gresham School and Balliol College, Oxford. Since 1935 he had been Liberal M.P. for the former North Cumberland division. In the second world war he was commissioned in The Border Regiment, later becoming Parliamentary private secretary to Sir Archibald Sinclair, Secretary of State for Air, and since 1947 has been chairman of the Liberal Party Press and Publicity Committee.
