BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. E. S. T. Johnson, who fought Lancaster as a Liberal in 1945, joined the Conservative Party the next year. Born in 1897, he served with the 16th Lancers in France and Belgium in 1914-18 and was awarded the M.C. He then joined a firm of wire manufacturers, and later spent seven years cattle ranching in British Columbia, returning to England in 1931 to train racehorses. He rejoined the Army in 1940 and served at the R.A.O.C. depot at Catterick.
