    BIOGRAPHY :

    Cmdr. P. G. Agnew (50) was educated at Repton and at the Royal Naval College, Keyham. He joined the Royal Navy in 1918 and retired in 1931, but rejoined in September, 1939, and served until October, 1944. He was elected M.P. for the former Camborne division in 1935, and retained the seat in the last Parliament when it was amalgamated with Falmouth. In May, 1945, he was appointed an assistant Government Whip, and in August, 1945, was appointed a Conservative Whip. He is member for Truro diocese in the House of Laity of the Church Assembly and a Church Commissioner for England.

He was elected for Working-ton in 1945 and has been Parliamentary private secretary to the Minister of Agriculture. He is a member of the national executive of the Playing Fields’ Association.

Born in 1897 he became a railway signalman and was for severalyearsamember of the executive of the N.U.R. ; and also served on Pontypridd council. He investigated labour relations in Norway for the Fabian Society, and in 1949 lectured for the British Infoimation Service in the United States.

    Mr. A. E. P. Duffy, aged 29, was born in a Yorkshire mining village and with the aid of scholarships won his way to the London School of Economics, where he took a B.Sc.(Econ.) degree with honours last year. He is engaged on research at London University. Gaining a commission in the Navy during the war he served with the Fleet Air Arm and was in command of the Naval School of Air Radar. His injuries in the war necessitated a long course of plastic surgery treatment.

In the first world war he served in France and Italy, and in the second in West Africa before he was invalided out in 1943. He served with the Control Commission in Germany.

He was chairman of his lodge from 1928 to 1942, then secretary for three years, and four times a member of the executive of the Durham Miners’ Association. From 1921 to 1945 he served on the Court of Referees, and for 10 years was a member of the South Shields council, being chairman of the education and electricity committees.

He has lectured in 10 countries on international affairs.

Houldsworth was senior anaesthetist at Leeds General Infirmary, and he is now in the R.A.M.C. He comes from a family with a Liberal tradition, his father, Sir H. Houldsworth, K.C., having contested Pudsey and Otley in 1929, and his mother is a Liberal member of the West Riding County Council.
