Educated at Glasgow University, he has been lecturer and propagandist for the Scottish Labour College. He is a keen cooperator, and was once chairman of Glasgow I.L.P.

    Lt.-Col. W. Forbes, unsuccessful in the 1948 by-election, was born in 1902, educated at Eton and Sandhurst, and commissioned in the Coldstream Guards. He was captured by the Italians at Tobruk in 1942, but escaped and was free for a fortnight before falling into German hands. He remained a prisoner of war until 1945. He is a member of Stirling County Council.

    Sir Gordon Lethem, now farming in Esk-dailemuir, Dumfriesshire, was educated at Edinburgh and Grenoble Universities, and at s?hools of Oriental languages in Paris and London, and is a barrister. He was the first administrator of the German Cameroons after the 1914-18 war and was successively Governor of the Seychelles, the Leeward Islands, and British Guiana. He took part in the negotiations with America for the destroyers-for-air bases deal. He is a K.C.M.G. and a Knight of the Order of St. John.

He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Production in 1945. He is the Leader of the National Liberal Party in the House of Commons. A son of the first Baron Maclay, he is interested in shipping and led the British Merchant Shipping Mission to Washington during the war. He was educated at Winchester and Trinity College, Cambridge.
