    The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jonathan Ashworth on 2016-02-23.

    To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, how many non-pensionable bonuses were awarded to his officials in each of the last five years; and what the total of such bonuses was to the public purse.

    Matthew Hancock

    The Prime Minister’s office and No.10 are integral parts of the Cabinet Office.

    Non-pensionable bonuses are only awarded to staff in recognition of sustained high performance. This allows the Cabinet Office to reward high performance and create an organisation that delivers on its challenging objectives. The information requested since 2011-12 for all Cabinet Office staff including that of Ministerial offices has been published on the Cabinet Office website.

    Information on non-consolidated bonuses for 2011-12 can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/62006/ncprp-data-collection.csv/preview

    To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what 10 Downing Street’s wellness strategy is.

    Matthew Hancock

    The Cabinet Office takes the well-being of its employees seriously and provides a range of support, including the recent launch of the Cabinet Office Listening Service, resourced by staff who have been trained in active listening and emotional support. The service can provide upfront support to Cabinet Office staff dealing directly or indirectly with specific issues in their personal or working life or to help them to cope with mental health issues of any kind including depression, anxiety or stress. Listeners can also signpost individuals onto other relevant services such as the external Employee Assistant Programme which offers counselling, impartial advice and access to online health and wellness related resources.

    The department has established an employee led WorkWell community to further develop and implement a strategy for wellness. Progress to date includes establishing resilience training for senior leaders and their teams, signing up to the Time to Change pledge on mental health, providing access to coaching and training in skills to improve wellbeing such as mindfulness. WorkWell are also seeking to increase awareness of opportunities to improve physical wellbeing at work including provision of on-site health checks.

    The Northern Ireland Office’s wellness strategy is to promote and sustain a healthy, safe and supportive working environment for all our people. We do this by:

    • Providing absence and welfare policies and workplace support services;
    • Maintaining a zero tolerance policy towards discrimination, bullying and harassment in the workplace;
    • Ensuring the working environment is safe and meets Health and Safety legislative requirements;
    • Promoting an open-minded, respectful and inclusive workplace.

    As a small department the Northern Ireland Office has also secured access to the Ministry of Justice’s networks and services for our staff to use.

    Andy Slaughter – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Justice

    The below Parliamentary question was asked by Andy Slaughter on 2016-02-23.

    To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many rape incidents have occurred in each prison establishment in each month since May 2010.

    Andrew Selous

    NOMs collects data on all sexual assaults, but does not separate these into type of assault. Our annual Safety in Custody Statistical Bulletin contains information on the overall numbers of sexual assaults (see table 3.9 in the link https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/495430/safety-in-custody-assaults-dec-2014.xls).

    We are committed to running safe prisons. We treat any assault extremely seriously and are working hard to reduce levels of violence in our prisons.

    To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many Legionnaires’ disease incidents have been reported in each prison since May 2010.

    Danny Kinahan – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Justice

    The below Parliamentary question was asked by Danny Kinahan on 2016-02-23.

    To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many compensation claims against prison staff were made by prisoners in each of the last five years.

    Andrew Selous

    NOMS defend robustly all claims brought and successfully defend two thirds of claims brought by prisoners. It is not possible accurately to separate prisoner compensation claims against prison staff from other similar claims (e.g. assaults by other prisoners).
