    To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many Syrian refugees she expects to be housed in the UK by December 2015.

    The Government has committed to resettling 20,000 Syrian refugees in the lifetime of this Parliament. The Prime Minister has said that we want to see 1,000 refugees brought to the UK by Christmas.

    The Government is working closely with local authorities, international delivery partners and the voluntary sector, putting in place the plans and structures to deliver this and ensuring the system is scaled up in a way that protects the interests of all concerned.

    Details on numbers will be published in the regular quarterly immigration statistics.

    This is a voluntary scheme whereby local authorities sign up to accept refugees on a voluntary basis. Housing is one element they would take into consideration before participating. We are working closely with those local authorities that have indicated they wish to be involved as well as with the Local Government Associations.

    To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the Answer of 17 September 2015 to Question 10048, if she will take steps to ensure that the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority collects data in a way that would allow information about compensation awarded to victims of modern slavery to be identified.

    There are currently no plans to change the way data is collected that would allow information about compensation awarded to victims of modern slavery to be identified. As explained in my earlier response of 17 September the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) cannot provide data on the compensation it has awarded to victims of a particular crime type. This is because it awards compensation in line with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme tariff of injuries rather than the type of incident that led to those injuries. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 makes both modern slavery offences – slavery, servitude and forced labour and human trafficking – “criminal lifestyle” offences, making perpetrators subject to the most robust confiscation regime available under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA).

    To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the Government’s consultation document on Tackling Exploitation in the Labour Market, published in October 2015, what plans she has to use data gathered by labour market enforcement agencies in immigration enforcement activities.

    The labour market enforcement bodies already work closely with Home Office immigration enforcement and share information. Where they identify suspected immigration offences during the course of their own investigations information is passed on and Immigration Enforcement may use information to conduct enforcement operations against businesses employing illegal migrants. This sharing of information will continue to be the case in the future.
