Jim Cunningham – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Home Office

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what representations she has received from police forces in England and Wales on reports of an increase in racist incidents after the EU referendum; and if she will make a statement.

The Home Office has been working with the police at national and regional levels to monitor the increase in reported hate crime over the past few weeks and to ensure that local forces have the necessary assistance and guidance to respond.

Police forces are responding robustly to recent incidents, and victims can be reassured that their concerns about hate crime will be taken seriously by the police and courts. Any decisions regarding resourcing of front-line policing are a matter for chief constables in conjunction with their police and crime commissioner.

Poulter – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department of Health

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many suicide attempts were recorded by health bodies in England for each year from 1995 to 2015; what that number was as a proportion of the population; what the ethnic backgrounds were of those people attempting suicide; and how many of those people were previously known to mental health services.

In 2012 the Department announced investment of over £1.5 million over three years on suicide prevention research and development.

Data on the funding allocated to suicide prevention is not available from 1995. The tables below show the funding that was allocated from Department of Health programme budgets to suicide prevention between 2011/12 and 2015/16 and self-harm prevention from 2012/13 – 2015/16. Prior to this, funding allocated to suicide prevention was held within broader mental health strategy budgets.

Lord Moynihan – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the remarks by Viscount Younger of Leckie on 19 November (HL Deb, col 331), whether the investigation into the email exchange between the Chief Executive of the UK Anti-Doping Agency and the Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association is complete, and if so,what action has been taken on the findings.

Viscount Younger’s comment referred to the investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Independent Commission into the Sunday Times allegations on blood doping, which remain ongoing -not to the comments made by the Chief Executive of UK Anti-Doping.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will make representations to his Colombian counterpart to ensure that the Mothers of Soacha are able to keep their relatives’ graves in their current cemetery without incurring financial costs.

Any claim in negotiating compensation for the preservation of the graves must be requested directly via the government of Colombia, through the local compensation courts. Her Majesty’s Government is unable to interfere directly in this process.

Kate Hoey – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Transport

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what discussions his Department has had with London Underground (LU) on the effect on passenger safety of reducing staffing on LU.

The Department’s Ministers and officials have regular meetings with Transport for London (TfL) where many issues are discussed, including TfL’s plans to change the way Underground stations are operated and staffed, and to improve the service they provide to customers. I am assured that the changes introduced by TfL will not have a detrimental impact on passenger safety.

Huw Irranca-Davies – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if his Department will reconsider its decision to withdraw Volunteer Gliding Squadrons provision for Air Cadets in Wales.

No. Cadets from all Welsh cadet units will still have the opportunity to fly gliders.

Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGS) due to disband are 634 Squadron currently based at St Athan and 636 Squadron currently based at Swansea. The intention is that these will be offset by an expansion of 1 Air Experience Flight at St Athan and that VGS in the West of England will become regional hubs.

The reduced VGS footprint will allow resources to be focused on the remaining Squadrons. This will enable more suitable infrastructure to be built and maintained that supports the Air Cadet Organisation more fully. The key development across the estate over time will be to provide new overnight accommodation and training facilities that safely allows cadets and adult instructors, over full residential weekends, to carry out gliding alongside flying related ground training including gliding simulators, funded by the RAF Charitable Trust. This should improve access to such activities for those that are located further from VGS sites.

Volunteers at affected Volunteer Gliding Squadrons will be offered opportunities to fill other posts within the Air Cadet Organisation dependent upon their own transferable skills and their personal preferences.

Lord Myners – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, in the light of the current situation facing the UK’s retail industry, they will reconsider their decision not to publish the report by the Insolvency Service into the collapse of Comet Group plc.

The Insolvency Service’s fact-finding inquiry into Comet was conducted under Section 447 of the Companies Act 1985. Section 449 of that Act makes it a criminal offence to share any information gathered in the course of the investigation with any person, other than in the strictly prescribed circumstances laid out in the Act.

In the light of this legal position I am unable to reconsider the request to publish the report.
