Ann Clwyd – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether he raised with the President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi of Egypt the case of Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Hussein.

Although the Prime Minister, my right hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron) did not raise this specific case on 5 November, he discussed human rights issues in Egypt with President Sisi. He raised a number of concerns, including around the detention of political activists, mass trials and restrictions on freedom of expression.

Jim Fitzpatrick – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Justice

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment his Department has made of the potential effect of the proposed closure of Bow County Court on access to justice for the residents of Poplar and Limehouse constituency.

The consultation closed on 8 October. HM Courts & Tribunals Service is currently evaluating all responses submitted, and will take into account any potential impacts identified from the responses received.

No decision has been taken to close any court and an announcement on the outcome of the consultation will be made in due course.

Luciana Berger – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department of Health

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Luciana Berger on 2016-01-14.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to the Answer of 14 January 2016 to Question 21922, how much of the £75 million allocated to CCGs to improve local services in 2015-16 has been spent.

Out of the £173 million, £105 million has gone to clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) directly.

The remaining £68 million has been allocated to the below organisations to be spent centrally on workforce and system development. These are approximations to the nearest million:

– £58 million allocated to NHS England;

– £9 million allocated to Health Education England; and

– £1 million allocated to the Department of Health.

The Government are taking a targeted and phased approach to ensuring the funding allocated to workforce and system development is spent effectively and plans are in place for this money to be spent.

The figure of how much of the £75 million allocated to CCGs to improve local services has been spent is not available. NHS England is currently collecting monthly financial information regarding the amount of spend on child and adolescent mental health services. This is being validated during January and will be made available later in the year.

Lord Rooker – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department of Health

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Earl Howe on 22 July 2014 (HL939), what was the ranking of the UK in the Health at a Glance 2015: OECD Indicators report for (1) infant mortality, (2) numbers of MRI and CT Scanners, (3) low birth weight infants, (4) overweight and obesity amongst adults, (5) overweight and obesity amongst children, (6) mortality from cardiovascular disease, and (7) mortality from cancer; how these rankings compared to those for 2013; and what plans they have to improve the UK rankings.

The Government welcomes the OECD reports as an authoritative contribution to the development of health policy in the UK. For the health service in England, we have taken note of the OECD’s findings. The underlying data on health outcomes informs the development of our mandates and other guidance to the health and care system, in particular to NHS England and Public Health England.

We have not received any representations from schools in Coventry regarding the Government’s policy that all schools will become academies.

We want every school to be an academy because it leads to a more dynamic, responsive and higher-performing education system. It allows successful schools to consolidate success and spread that excellence across the country. As part of our plans, we are giving schools six years’ notice to work with their local authority and diocese to plan and make the right decisions for their pupils and communities. We are clear that no school has to rush into an arrangement that is not right for them.

Will Quince – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department of Health

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what assessment he has made of the merits of offering unused returned drugs to developing countries.

In general, where a hospital pharmacy issues medicines to an individual patient and they remain within the hospital, either because they are not used or only partly used, the medicines would be returned to the pharmacy to check that they are suitable for re-use and returned to the pharmacy stock.

The Government does not promote the re-use of medicines that have left the pharmacy and been returned to either hospital or community pharmacies by patients, as it is not possible to guarantee the quality of a returned medicine by physical inspection alone.

The Government also does not recommend the donation of patient-returned medicines. This is in line with clear World Health Organization guidelines, which have been developed‎ in cooperation with major international agencies involved in humanitarian and developmental aid. Since its inception in 2001, the Energy Technology List has incentivised UK businesses to invest in highly efficient plant and machinery as part of the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme, which provides a cash-flow advantage for businesses. Going forward, the Government will work to ensure that the Energy Technology List continues to help deliver our business energy-efficiency policy ambitions effectively whilst providing good value for money for tax payers.
