    Mr. W. Nally, a journalist, born in 1914, served as a war correspondent in north-west Europe, after having been discharged from the R.A. as medically unfit. At the age of 17 he was appointed leader of the Labour Youth movement in Manchester. He won Bilston in 1945 and became Parliamentary private secretary to the Minister of Town and Country Planning and secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party’s Common Wealth Group.

He has since had a varied experience in Post Office work, salesmanship, teaching, lecturing, and writing. He is a member of Staffs County Council.

By scholarships from an elementary school he went to Perse School and Jesus College, Cambridge. He gained an open scholarship in classics, and graduated with honours in Classics and English. He was chairman of the University Labour Club, and a half-Blue for lacrosse. He saw a good deal of service in the war, and was twice mentioned in dispatches.

He is specially interested in housing and town-planning. He was elected as M .P. for the old West Coventry division in 1945.
