At present an export manager in the textile industry and commanding a Leicestershire Territorial regiment, he served during the late war with the Royal Horse Artillery in the Middle East, Italy and Austria. He has been chairman of the National League of Young Liberals and president of the Lancashire and Cheshire Young Liberals.

In the first world war he served with The Essex Regiment and the Coldstream Guards, and was legal adviser to Shaef in the second. He is treasurer of the R.S.P.C.A., and a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee and of the London-over-the-Border Committee.

He has filled many offices in the Young Conservative movement, and was vice-chairman of its national committee from 1946 to 1948. He is area chairman of the committee for Lancashire, Cheshire and Westmorland, and has served on the executive of the National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations since 1946.

Engaged in industry in the Sheffield district, he is interested in industrial problems, especially in the coal industry, and he has been joint secretary of the Con-servatiye Parliamentary Fuel and Power Committee.
