    Mr. P. H. Collick, born in 1897, was a footplate man on the old L. and S.W. Railway. He became assistant general secretary of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers in 1939. Elected to Parliament in 1945 for West Birken-head, he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture until 1947, when he resigned for health reasons.

    Mr. J. Pagett, a native of Stourbridge, aged 63, came to Birmingham when he was 15 years of age as an apprentice to the retail grocery trade. He was at one time president of the National Association of Grocers’ Assistants, a forerunner of the National Shop Assistants’ Union. He subsequently became a retail grocer, and staunchly champions the individual trader and the ” little man ” in business. He is a member of the Birmingham City Council.

    Mr. L. J. Edwards, who was Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade in the last Parliament, became an M.P. in 1945, his third attempt, when he won Blackburn from the Conservatives. He served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health before his appointment to the Board of Trade. He is 45 years of age, and is a B.A. with honours in economics and political science, of Leeds University. In 1938 he was appointed general secretary of the G.P.O. Engineering Union.

    Mr. Oliver Stanley 1 was first elected to Parliament for Westmorland in 1924 and held the seat until 1945, when he was returned for Bristol West. His first Ministerial office was that of Under- j Secretary to the Home Office, 1931-33, and he was successively Minister I of Transport, Labour, i Education, and President ‘ of the Board of Trade. In 1940 he was for a time Secretary of State for War, and from 1942 to 1945 Colonial Secretary. He was born in 1896, son of the 17th Earl of Derby, and went to Eton and Oxford. After service in the first war he was called to the Bar, 1919, Northern Circuit, but gave up practice to become a stockbroker.
