BIOGRAPHY :

Lt.-Cmdr. A. Mars, born in 1915, began his naval career at Dartmouth, first went to sea in 1932, and served in submarines during the war. When in command of the Unbroken he created a record by torpedoing two fast-moving enemy cruisers with one salvo. He passed the Naval Staff course and went to New Zealand as first lieutenant of the Navy’s training cruiser. Before returning to England he did three months’ service in Hongkong.
