BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. S. P. Viant first won the seat in 1923, lost it in 1931, and has held it since 1935. Born in Plymouth, he went to London to work as a joiner when 19, and is a member of the Amalgamated Society of Wood-workers. He was Assistant Postmaster-General in the 1929-31 Labour Government.
