BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. H. L. Austin represented the division from 1945 until the dissolution. Born in 1911, he started work at the age of 11 as a carpenter and became works manager and later a director of an aircraft factory. He joined the Royal Navy in 1943 and served on the staff at Fleet Air Arm headquarters. In the House of Commons he has served on Labour Party Committees for Defence and the Services.
