BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. F. B. Copeman was born in 1907, and was left an orphan at the age of seven. Educated at Dr. Barnardo’s School, he spent 11 years in the Royal Navy. For a time a member of the Communist Party, he joined the International Brigade in Spain in 1936 and later commanded the British battalions. He was decorated for A.R.P. work in the last war. Joining the Labour Party in 1944, he was chairman of Lewisham Housing Committee 1945-49, and is president of Lewisham Trades Council.
