BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. Walter Elliot, who had previously represented Lanark, Kel-vingrove, and the Scottish Universities, returned to fight Kelvingrove after the university seats were abolished. He had been defeated here in the 1945 election by only 48 votes, after having been member for the division since 1924. He has held a number of offices, including that of Secretary of State for Scotland, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister of Health. He holds honorary degrees from five universities. Born in 1888, he was educated at Glasgow Academy and Glasgow University.
