BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. J. Carmichael was elected as I.L.P. member in 1946, succeeding the late Mr. James Maxton, but later followed other I.L.P. members into the Labour Party. Born in 1894, he became a steel erector and then an organizer for the I.L.P., with whom he was associated for 33 years. He has had nearly 20 years’ experience of local administration as a member of Glasgow Corporation.
