BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. R. Fort, aged 41, an industrial chemist, contested the division in 1945, and his grandfather and uncle were M.P.s for Clitheroe. He was educated at Eton and Oxford, where he took B.Sc, and in 1935 joined Imperial Chemical Industries, becoming president of I.C.I. (New York) Limited, in 1938. After service with the British Purchasing Commission in the United States he was with the Ministry of Supply, and is technical consultant to I.C.I.
