To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what estimate he has made of the waiting time for a non-urgent appointment with a GP in Mid Sussex constituency.

    Alistair Burt

The information required is not collected centrally.

NHS England advises that the latest GP Patient Survey for January 2016 on waiting times at general practitioner surgeries was conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England. That survey found that for patients served by the NHS Horsham and Mid Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group, 59% feel that they do not wait too long, whereas 33% feel that they do wait too long. This compares nationally with 58% and 34% respectively.

Nicholas Soames – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Nicholas Soames on 2016-02-23.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if she will carry out a review of UK dairy processing capacity.

    George Eustice

Dairy processors have undertaken a sustained high level of investment in the UK. In recent years, capital investment by the top five dairy organisations in the UK has regularly exceeded £100m per annum. In total, over the period March 2006 to 2013, capital expenditure by these organisations exceeded £1.2bn.

It is important to continue to encourage high quality inward investment from around the world to boost security and growth. UKTI, the Great British Food Unit and Dairy UK are hosting a senior delegation of dairy companies from China in March 2016. These companies are interested in building stronger relations with British counterparts whether through the development of direct imports of finished products into China, collaboration on ingredients and processing, or joint ventures.

Nicholas Soames – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Nicholas Soames on 2016-03-07.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, at which fora discussion takes place between Russia and (a) officials of the UK Government and (b) officials or diplomats of Western countries.

    Mr David Lidington

Discussions between UK and Russian officials take place as appropriate within those international institutions where both countries are represented. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, such contact is essential as we confront international challenges such as the conflict in Syria.

In the context of the NATO-Russia Council, however, dialogue with Russia has been largely suspended since Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in March 2014.

Discussions take place within international institutions between Russian officials and officials or diplomats of Western countries on a range of key international issues.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if he will undertake a review of the effectiveness of the operations and governance of NHS Property Services.

    George Freeman

NHS Property Services Ltd is a limited company that is fully owned by the Secretary of State for Health. Review of the effectiveness of its operations is an ongoing process by the company’s Board, which includes a Departmental senior civil servant as a Director, and by officials in the Department’s Commercial Division. Minsters have no plans for any further review of the company’s operations at this time.

With regard to its governance, the company undertook a review of its corporate governance in 2014 to align itself more closely to UK Corporate Governance Code 2014, which applies to listed companies. This resulted in the introduction, during the year, of new Nomination and Facilities Management Committees.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, whether she has had discussions with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew on the potential role of that organisation in advising the UN and other institutions on desertification.

    Mr Nick Hurd

The UK Government maintains a close dialogue with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew on tackling international environmental and conservation issues, with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) leading HMG’s relationship with Kew. As a world leading organisation and a holder of the Red List for Plant species, Kew Gardens is already providing valuable information which supports action on desertification, including work by the UN in relation to the Global Goal indicators. Kew Gardens has received funding from the UK government’s Darwin Initiative to improve understanding of the link between conservation and poverty alleviation.
