    I am deeply disappointed that Boris [Johnson] has chosen not to stand.

    I shall now nominate Penny Mordaunt to let the members of our great Party decide who should be our Leader and next Prime Minister. I abhor political coronations. They invariably get it wrong.

    To be clear: he [Boris Johnson] may not be the 1st choice of MPs (I may be wrong) but he most certainly is amongst the membership. He’s a #winner and the only MP with legitimacy having been overwhelmingly elected by the country. Without him calls for a General Election will grow.

    I feel so sorry for Liz Truss and the nation. If it hadn’t been Kwasi Kwarteng’s grand experiment (the mini-budget), this would not have happened. I wish Liz and her team in No. 10 well for the future.
