To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the size of the Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron has been in each year since 2010.

Each year since 2010 the Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron (RNGS) has consisted of two SCIMITAR Class Patrol Boats, HMS SCIMITAR and HMS SABRE and three Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs). It is also frequently bolstered by Royal Navy vessels transiting the region.

Since 2010 there have been 22 stationed personnel which were increased by five temporary augmentees following a pattern of increased Spanish incursions in 2012. After a review in 2014 the number of personnel was permanently uplifted to 26.

The following table represents the financial expenditure incurred by British Forces Gibraltar in support of the RNGS in each year since 2010.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what plans his Department has to (a) merge and (b) disband military units in implementing Joint Force 2025.

There are no plans to merge or disband military units in implementing Joint Force 2025. We are committed to maintaining the size of the regular Armed Forces, not reducing the Army below 82,000, and increasing the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force by a total of 700 personnel.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what estimate he has made of the cost of redundancy payments arising from meeting the Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 target of reducing civilian staff numbers by 41,000.

A number of change programmes are already under way to reduce Ministry of Defence civilian workforce numbers. The remaining savings will be made through new studies that will identify opportunities for more efficient and innovative ways of working.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what proportion of those eligible service personnel who have left the reserve forces have participated in the Reservists Employment Support Programme of the Careers Transition Partnership in each year since 2010.

Following the commencement of the Career Transition Partnership on 1 October 2015, the Reservists Employment Support Programme is expected to be trialled from April 2016.

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, how many apprenticeships were created in the tourism sector in (a) 2010-11, (b) 2011-12, (c) 2012-13 and (d) 2014-15.

The number of apprenticeship starts in the ‘Leisure, Travel and Tourism’ Sector Subject Area by academic year are shown in Table 1.

We are committed to reaching 3 million apprenticeship starts in England by 2020. There were 2.4 million apprenticeship starts over the previous Parliament.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps his Department is undertaking to assist local authorities in preparing bids for the 2021 UK City of Culture.

DCMS will issue guidance on bidding for the UK City of Culture 2021 ahead of the competition which will run during 2017 – the year when we will celebrate Hull City of Culture. DCMS will continue to provide advice to interested local authorities and intends to hold an event later this year to explain the process and to generate interest in this exciting opportunity.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, with reference to page 65 of the Budget, how much he expects to contribute from his Departmental resources to establish the new Broadband Investment Fund in (a) 2016-17, (b) 2017-18, (c) 2018-19 and (d) 2019-20.

At Budget 2016 the Government announced an intention to establish a Broadband Investment Fund. No decision has yet been made on the amount that will be invested. The next stage of the process will see the Government procure a fund manager to raise and manage the fund.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what his Department’s expenditure was on artificial football pitches in (a) 2010-11, (b) 2011-12, (c) 2012-13, (d) 2013-14, (e) 2014-15 and (f) 2015-16 to date.

Since 2010/11, the Government has invested over £125 million with the specific purpose of creating and maintaining new artificial grass pitches (AGPs) delivered by the Football Foundation, Sport England (whose investment includes AGPs for football, and multi-sport projects/facilities) and Parklife football hubs programme. This investment came to £8,925,413 in 2010/11; £11,958,279 in 2011/12; £18,107,308 in 2012/13; £26,996,902 in 2013/14; £31,751,581 in 2014/15; and £27,407,989 in 2015/16 to date.

Government funding in the Football Foundation has been matched by the Premier League and the Football Association.
