Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for International Development

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-10-19.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what anti-corruption measures were agreed at the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan, held on 4-5 October 2016; what steps she plans to take to ensure the effectiveness of such measures; and if she will make a statement.

    Rory Stewart

Helping Afghans to tackle corruption is a key priority for the UK’s engagement in Afghanistan, where we focus first and foremost on anti-corruption efforts that contribute to the building of a stable and self-reliant state. Anti-corruption was a key theme of the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan. At the Conference, the Afghan government announced that the new Anti Corruption Justice Centre (ACJC) was operational. They also made a commitment that five revenue generating ministries will publicly report on implementation progress of their anti-corruption action plans in 2017.

The UK and the rest of the international community will continue to press the Afghan government to deliver on these commitments to ensure that core government functions are transparent, accountable and consistent, and that violations are met with legal, timely and consistently applied sanctions.

    Mark Lancaster

In accordance with JSP441, para 2.11.2, the Senior Information Officer (SIO) is to ensure that local management instructions exist to augment those contained in JSP 441 and that they are to be reviewed to ensure consistency with JSP 441. At all of the establishments listed the relevant SIO provides guidance and all staff undertake annual IT training.

Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-04-08.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what value of (a) support contracts and (b) all defence contracts placed by the US administration with UK-based companies has been placed (i) with each company and (ii) for each product since May 2010; and if he will make a statement.

    Mr Philip Dunne

During the period from 1 May 2010 to 11 April 2016, the US Department of Defense issued 669 defence support contracts to UK-based companies for a total value of $786,781,916.

During the same period, the US Department of Defense issued 5,372 contracts for goods and services with UK-based companies for a total value of $5,017,778,595.

In total, contracts were issued to more than 700 different UK companies during the period, for a wide range of services and hardware. • Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-05-18.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, how many people with Parkinson’s disease who leased a Motability vehicle under disability living allowance were assessed as being ineligible for that vehicle under personal independence payment prior to any subsequent appeal.

    Justin Tomlinson

The Department does not hold this information. Motability is an independent charitable organisation that is wholly responsible for the administration of the Motability scheme, including collating its own management information and client statistics. Whilst the Department meets regularly with Motability to discuss scheme performance, questions relating to the details of the scheme’s operation should be directed to Motability itself.

We recognise that the transition from Disability Living Allowance to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can be challenging for some individuals, which is why the Department worked closely with Motability as we developed our plans for the introduction of PIP. The Motability charity provides a one-off package of transitional support and advice to support customers who no longer meet the eligibility criteria for the Motability Scheme. For most of these customers who entered into their first lease agreement with Motability before January 2013, Motability will provide transitional support of £2,000. This will enable many former Scheme customers to continue to meet their mobility needs by purchasing a used car.

For customers who entered into their first lease agreement with the scheme during 2013, Motability will supply transitional support of £1,000 to assist with mobility costs. Motability is also providing help with the cost of adaptations made to non-scheme vehicles and information on non-scheme motoring and insurance. The Scheme also offers customers an opportunity to purchase their vehicle after the end of the lease.

Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-09-12.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps he is taking to ensure that apprenticeships and training programmes are adequately supported through current and future defence procurement (a) guidance and (b) programmes; and if he will make a statement.

    Mark Lancaster

The Ministry of Defence is proud to be the single largest provider of quality apprenticeships in the UK, having delivered more than 150,000. We therefore play an important role in helping the Government meet its commitment to reaching three million apprenticeship starts in England by 2020.

We work closely with colleagues across Government and industry to help maintain and develop the essential skills needed to deliver defence outputs. That includes working with industry partners to develop new world-class apprenticeship standards. Where we know that specific skills are needed for the effective delivery of defence capability, our procurement policies allow for consideration of these skills in our tendering activity, and their continued development through the life of relevant contracts.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what proportion of the army’s (a) Junior Entrants and (b) Standard Entrants were medically discharged due to an injury during initial training in each of the last three years; and if he will make a statement.

    Mark Lancaster

The proportion of Junior and Standard Entrant Regular Army Personnel, Medically Discharged during initial training for 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15 is shown below:

    Entry Type

    2012-13

    2014-15

    Junior Entry

    8.6%

    6.8%

    Standard Entry

    4.2%

    5.1%

    5.1%

Initial training has been defined as all personnel either in Phase 1 or Phase 2 training.

Junior Entry is defined as trainees under 18 years old at the Army Foundation College (Harrogate) on Junior Entry courses. Figures for under 18s who follow the standard entry route are recorded with the standard entry total and cannot be separated out.

Officer Designates have been excluded from this response as they do not enter the UK Army via Junior or Standard Entry.
