To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how much production work by (a) value and (b) numbers of jobs has been undertaken by employees in the UK on UK defence contracts placed with US defence companies in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

    Mr Philip Dunne

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) does not currently collate information on how much production or support work is undertaken in the UK or US on UK defence contracts, either by value or number of jobs. A comprehensive breakdown of which MOD contracts placed over the last five years are with UK or US suppliers is also not held centrally.

The MOD routinely publishes statistics on contracts it places on gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/defence-trade-and-industry-index. This includes an overall estimate of MOD expenditure for work undertaken in the UK and lists all organisations with which we have spent £5 million or more in the financial year. These statistics include expenditure with US companies.

    Mark Lancaster

A Board of Inquiry was held into each of the deaths at Deepcut; Private Sean Benton on 9 June 1995; Private Cheryl James on 27 November 1995; Private Geoff Gray on 17 September 2001 and Private James Collinson on 23 March 2002. All are available on the gov.uk website

Madeleine Moon – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-10-10.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, how many people with Parkinson’s disease have been transferred from long-term disability living allowance to personal independence payment in the last three years.

    Penny Mordaunt

As at February 2016 (the latest data available), I estimate there were about 4,600 working age people in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) whose main disabling condition is recorded as Parkinson’s disease on the DLA computer systems, and who will be invited to apply for Personal Independence Payment in the future, or may have been invited to claim within the past 6 months.

As at July 2016, there were 1,300 claimants in receipt of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) who have been reassessed in the last three years, having previously been in receipt of DLA, and whose main disabling condition is recorded as Parkinson’s disease or Parkinson’s syndrome on the PIP computer systems.

The length of a PIP award is based on an individual’s circumstances. For some of the most severely disabled claimants, a review could be as long as ten years after the initial award, at which point only a light-touch review, rather than a face-to-face assessment, will be necessary.

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2015-11-25.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether the assessment procedure to close (a) MOD Fairbourne and (b) MOD Llanrwst followed investment appraisal on project evaluation policy JSP507; and if he will make a statement.

    Mark Lancaster

The review was a study undertaken to understand how best to deliver Adventurous Training to meet the future needs of the RAF and not a financially driven initiative, therefore the principles of JSP 507 were followed although a formal Investment Appraisal was not undertaken.

    Mr Julian Brazier

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given to her by the Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans (Mark Lancaster) on 2 December to Question number 17679. Some costs for some previous years may be available and Ministry of Defence officials are reviewing them. I will write to the hon. Member and place a copy of my letter in the Library of the House.

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Madeleine Moon on 2016-02-02.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 21 January 2016 to Question 22264, what research his Department has funded into rehabilitative therapies for veterans with persistent symptoms associated with Gulf War illnesses; and what the main findings of that research are.

    Mark Lancaster

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) funded the first stage of a trial at Cardiff University to develop a treatment programme for ill Gulf veterans. Unfortunately there were difficulties with the recruitment of Gulf War veterans and the Department took the decision not to proceed with the second phase of the trial.

The MOD has made no assessment of the recovery outcomes for ill Gulf War veterans that took part in that trial.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will write to the Chief Constables of Surrey and Devon and Cornwall Police Forces to request that they place in the public domain their reports into the deaths at Deepcut barracks between 1995 and 2002; and if he will make a statement.

    Mark Lancaster

It would be inappropriate for me to try and influence the decisions of the Chief Constables of those Police Forces on how they handle their investigation material.
