    Work to support formulation and improvements to regulations on mobile financial services is a key part of DFID’s portfolio of financial sector programmes around mobile financial services across Africa and Asia. The UK is also an active advocate at the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), including as co-chair of the key subgroup on regulation and standard-setting bodies.

    Defra will publish the latest annual workforce monitoring report in January 2016. The report examines the diversity of Defra’s workforce and provides evidence of how we achieve our aim of offering real equality of opportunity to all our employees.

    The data from this report has been used to create the table below to highlight gender breakdown by headcount. Table 1 shows staff in post as at 31 March 2015 in Defra and its Executive Agencies. Employees on maternity leave and secondment are included in this analysis if they are on the core or agency payroll.

    DFID has made an important contribution to date in developing robust, efficient and inclusive financial markets. Between 2010-2015, UK Aid achievements included providing 68.9 million people, including 35.9 million women, with access to financial services.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what assessment her Department has made of the effect of mobile financial services on levels of extreme poverty in developing countries.

    Mobile financial services have a key role to play in connecting people to basic services, supporting economic empowerment and building resilience of individuals and families. DFID operates a number of financial inclusion programmes, many of which include elements to promote the development of mobile financial services, and all are required to undertake a formal Annual Review process to measure progress towards their expected impact. Our most significant programme in this area to date has been the technology programme for branchless banking, which at completion had provided access to financial services for just over 59m people globally.

    As at 31 December 2015, of the civil servants employed by the Department 1,180 were women and 838 were men. Their full-time equivalent numbers were 1,110 and 822 respectively.

    The Office for National Statistics produce annual and quarterly statistics for the whole of the Civil Service. The published figures include a gender distribution and a number of other demographics, for each Government Department and Executive Agency. These can be found at:

    To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many people are currently on the waiting list for a carers’ assessment.

    There is no central collection of data on the average and longest wait for a carer’s assessment after an initial request was made since the introduction of the Carers Act 2014. Nor is data collected centrally on the number of people currently on the waiting list for a carer’s assessment.

    Data on the number of carers assessed during the financial year 2014-15 by local authority is attached. It should be noted that these figures include both joint and separate assessments from the cared for person. The source for this data is Short and Long Term Support (SALT), England 2014-15. This return is collected and published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
