    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, if she will make it her policy to support the adoption of a target to ensure all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes by 2030 in the Open Working Group negotiations on the Sustainable Development Goals.

    The UK supports a target to ensure all girls and boys complete primary and secondary education with relevant learning outcomes in the post-2015 sustainable development framework. This language is included in the most recent draft goals and targets list released by the co-chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on 2 June.

    The final targets in the post-2015 development framework will however be subject to international negotiations in the United Nations, in which the UK will play an active role.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what recent discussions she has had with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on the average time taken to register a Syrian refugee in neighbouring countries.

    My officials are in regular discussion with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at both national and regional levels regarding UNHCR’s efforts to protect and assist Syrian refugees. UNHCR have devoted considerable resources to reducing the average time taken for refugee registration. In Lebanon, for example, average registration time has fallen from 80 days to 21 days.

    The UK is engaging fully in the UN Open Working Group where discussions on the next set of development goals are taking place. We continue to push strongly for the inclusion of targets in line with the Sustainable Energy for All initiative, including universal access to modern energy services by 2030.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, how much support her Department is giving to the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition.

    The UK has committed a total of £600m to the New Alliance for Food, Security and Nutrition. This includes £480m in funding commitments made through Country Cooperation Frameworks; a £76m contribution to the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme and a further £44m for enabling actions. The New Alliance was launched in May 2012 and the full £600m will be spent by the end of 2018.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps her Department will take to engage with smaller (a) international non-government organisations and (b) non-governmental organisations in its future work on disability.

    DFID already works closely with many INGOs and NGOs working on disability. In the UK, the Permanent Under-Secretary of State for International Development chairs regular civil society outreach meetings with UK based NGOs working on disability, and DFID officials work with BOND’s Disability and Development umbrella group for NGOs. Similarly, DFID country offices work closely with local civil society organisations including those working on disability.

    The UK supports the inclusion of ensuring universal health coverage as a target under an outcome-focused health goal. By definition, universal health coverage includes financial risk protection. This language is included in the most recent draft goals and targets list released by the co-chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on 2 June.

    The final targets in the post-2015 development framework will however be subject to international negotiations in the United Nations, in which the UK will play an active role.
