Andy Street – 2023 Comments on Crooked House Pub

The comments made by Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, on Twitter on 8 August 2023.

We’ve asked @south_staffs to ensure the Crooked House Pub is rebuilt brick by brick, & any attempt to change its use blocked 🚫.

@alex__claridge & I have also asked to be kept informed of the Fire & Police’s investigation.

We will not let the Crooked House be consigned to history.

Andy Street – 2023 Letter to Staffordshire Fire Brigade on Allegations of Blocked Access to Crooked House Fire

The letter sent by Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, to Chris Noble (Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police) and Rob Barber (Chief Fire Officer in Staffordshire) on 7 August 2023.

    Dear Chris and Rob,

We hope you are both keeping well.

We are writing in regards to the fire at the Crooked House Pub in Himley over the weekend. As you will be aware, this historical pub is of real significance to the cultural heritage and history of the West Midlands, and so it is deeply upsetting to see it gutted in this way.

Whilst we will avoid any speculation as to what has occurred, clearly there are major questions to be answered given how swiftly this fire happened following the sale of the pub to an unknown private developer. We are also intrigued by the fact that your officers faced blocked access when trying to get to the scene.

Given the significance to the West Midlands, we would kindly ask that you keep us abreast of your investigation. If there is anything we can do to help, then please let us know.

We are also copying the letter to Councillor Roger Lees, the leader of South Staffordshire District Council, who we have written to separately in regards to the future of the site.

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands.

  • Andy Street – 2022 Comments on the Resignation of Liz Truss

Andy Street – 2022 Comments on the Resignation of Liz Truss

The comments made by Andy Street, the Conservative Mayor of the West Midlands, on Twitter on 20 October 2022.

This is a complete mess, and I know people across the West Midlands feel utterly let down at a time when they face immense pressures in their daily lives.

We are all crying out for strong and consistent leadership, and I dearly hoped we’d get it.

But now the party has one last chance to pull itself together, unite behind a new leader, and deliver what it was elected to do.

People outside Westminster have no interest in personal political ambition, they just crave good leadership, help and support at this time.

So whoever is elected leader needs to work with us in the West Midlands to provide exactly that. My job, once again, will be to ensure that happens.

The comments made by Andy Street, the Conservative Mayor of the West Midlands, on 8 September 2022.

Like everyone across the West Midlands and the wider UK, I am profoundly concerned for the Queen’s health. My thoughts are with her and the Royal Family at this time.

  • Andy Street – 2022 Comments on 50th Anniversary of Spaghetti Junction

Andy Street – 2022 Comments on 50th Anniversary of Spaghetti Junction

The comments made by Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, on 24 May 2022.

Spaghetti Junction has become an iconic Brummie landmark so it’s only right that we celebrate its 50th anniversary.

At the time of its inception, it was actually considered a real engineering feat. So much so that my grandfather used to take me to visit whilst it was being built.

Over the years, it has played an important role in enabling goods, people and business to flow in and out of the region and will no doubt continue to do so for many years to come – not least in the year we play host to the Commonwealth Games.

    Andy Street – 2021 Comments on HS2

The comments made by Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, on 11 May 2021.

First day back as Mayor with hundreds of new HS2 jobs secured.

The £570m contract to build Curzon Street is a major investment, and we’ll run training courses so local people can get the skills they need to get to work.

All part of my plan for 100k new jobs in two years.
