To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they plan to undertake a consultation with farmers and farmers’ organisations on any proposal to release lynx into Kielder Forest in Northumberland.

In accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Natural England, as the licensing authority, considers any application for the reintroduction of former native species in England.

No application has been received to reintroduce lynx into England. If a licence application is received Natural England would consider it carefully in accordance with appropriate international guidelines, taking account of socio-economic impacts and the impact on the welfare of the animals themselves.

Kevin Barron – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department of Health

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Kevin Barron on 2016-01-13.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what plans he has to include generic medicines which are required to have a brand name by the MHRA and are already subject to market competition alongside originator medicines in the Statutory Scheme of Control the Prices of Branded Health Service Medicines.

The Department consulted on options to amend the Statutory Scheme regulations which control the prices of branded health service medicines. Both the voluntary Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme and the statutory scheme include all health service medicines with a brand name, including those required by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to have a brand name. The Department did not propose any changes to the scope of the statutory scheme in this respect and has not made an estimate of the cost of removing those branded medicines from the statutory scheme.

The Department received responses from a range of organisations including National Health Service, independent bodies and pharmaceutical industry. The Department is currently analysing the responses from a range of organisations including NHS, independent bodies and pharmaceutical industry.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has taken major steps to improve their customer service, including recruiting 3,000 new staff into customer service roles and undertaking their biggest-ever training programme to enable them to build customer support teams that can move across a wide range of work according to customer demand. HMRC have also introduced digital mail scanning to help manage the more than 1million items of post they receive every month.

The English Heritage Trust flies its house flag at its historic sites as an important way for visitors to identify its properties. Where properties have more than one flagpole, they are encouraged to fly the Union flag. To mark certain important occasions, flag flying protocol may vary, including on the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen (21 April) and on Remembrance Day when the Union flag is flown from all sites with flagpoles.

The Department for Exiting the European Union has responsibility for overseeing preparations for the withdrawal of the UK from the EU and conducting these withdrawal negotiations in support of the Prime Minister. In doing this it is working very closely with other government departments.

Workforce planning is primarily the responsibility of each individual department to determine and therefore the information requested is not held centrally.

The Civil Service constantly reviews its capabilities in order to deliver the Government’s agenda and following the EU referendum decision it is critical for the Civil Service to ensure it has the right skills and capabilities to deliver its manifesto commitments and consider all the implications of the EU exit.

Cabinet Office is working with all departments across the Civil Service to better understand their resourcing requirements following the decision to exit the EU.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how much has been paid in subsidies under the Common Agricultural Policy for land which is used for driven bird shooting in each of the last five years.

We do not routinely collect this information with regard to payments. Potentially, driven bird shooting could take place on all farmland and moorland. However, some land is not suitable because there are no game birds, or because the terrain is inappropriate for shooting, or because of the risks to others. There are also circumstances where individuals decide not to implement their right to shoot on their land and other occasions when these rights are reserved by the landlord and not used.
