  • Lord Roberts of Llandudno – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

Lord Roberts of Llandudno – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Lord Roberts of Llandudno on 2016-09-05.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what has been their total expenditure on military action in Syria and Iraq.

    Earl Howe

From August 2014 to 31 March 2016, the net additional costs of counter-Daesh activity in Iraq and Syria were £265 million. These costs were met from a combination of the HM Treasury Special Reserve and the Deployed Military Activity Pool (DMAP). The £265 million is split into £45 million in financial year 2014-15, and £220 million in financial year 2015-16.

This activity was to support UK military activity to degrade and ultimately defeat Daesh. It has included airstrikes in support of coalition ground operations and airborne intelligence gathering operations in Iraq and Syria, as well as helping to train the Iraqi Security Forces and moderate Syrian opposition.

Cheryl Gillan – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Transport

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Cheryl Gillan on 2016-10-20.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what the annual budget for communication and engagement has been for HS2 Ltd in each year since 2010.

    Andrew Jones

As is necessary for a project of the nature and scale of HS2, communication and engagement activities are undertaken by teams throughout the HS2 Ltd organisation, supported by a central corporate affairs team. This wide range of engagement includes, for example, local information events for impacted residents to meet with engineers to discuss the proposals; awareness campaigns along the line of route to inform residents about the property compensation schemes and how they can access these; and mobile sound labs for communities near the route of Phase One to come and hear the likely noise levels from the operational railway.

As a result, it is not possible to provide annual budget figures as the amount of time spent on communication and engagement activity is not centrally tracked.

  • Margaret Ferrier – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Margaret Ferrier – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Margaret Ferrier on 2016-01-13.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the conclusions of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s assessment of the neoniocotinoid imidacloprid, published on 6 January 2016.

    George Eustice

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has published a “Preliminary Pollinator Assessment to Support the Registration Review of Imidacloprid”. The Agency aims to produce the final assessment at the end of 2016. The preliminary assessment indicates a risk to honey bees from uses of imidacloprid on cotton and some uses on citrus. Risks from use on a number of other crops were low and a shortage of data meant that the risks from use on other crops were uncertain.

The US assessment cannot be read across to the UK situation as there are many differences in the crops, methods of applying the pesticide and environmental conditions.

The European Food Safety Authority has begun a scientific evaluation of the risk to bees from imidacloprid, as well as two other neonicotinoids (clothianidin and thiamethoxam). The UK will participate fully in that review.

Caroline Lucas – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Caroline Lucas on 2016-03-02.

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, what assessment he has made of the potential implications for the completion of projects funded in England by EU structural funds in the event of the UK leaving the EU.

    Anna Soubry

At the February European Council, the Government negotiated a new settlement, giving the United Kingdom a special status in a reformed European Union. The Government’s position, as set out by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to the House on 22 February, is that the UK will be stronger, safer and better off remaining in a reformed EU.

  • Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts on 2016-03-23.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether there was any prior consultation before the decision was taken to end the post transaction valuation check and PAYE health check currently provided by HMRC with effect from 31 March 2016 and, if not, why not.

    Lord O’Neill of Gatley

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has been consulting representative bodies through the Valuation Fiscal Forum over the last 18 months.

HMRC has not withdrawn valuation services that are most relevant to employee share ownership schemes.

HMRC has withdrawn valuation checks for income tax and PAYE as in most cases acceptable valuations were submitted, and therefore the service offered was not of sufficient value.

    Claire Perry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many women who claimed asylum on the grounds of sexual violence in their home country were deported in each of the last three years.

    James Brokenshire

Information concerning the basis of a claim for asylum is not readily accessible from central statistical records and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost through a manual search of individual case files.

  • Lord West of Spithead – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

Lord West of Spithead – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Defence

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Lord West of Spithead on 2016-09-05.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what are the planned in-service dates for the offshore patrol vessels presently on order or planned; and how much each vessel will cost.

    Earl Howe

In August 2014, the Ministry of Defence placed a contract valued at £348 million with BAE Systems on the Clyde for the procurement of three River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs). On current plans, we expect these three vessels to enter service between 2018 and 2019.

The Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 set out the Government’s plan to build two additional OPVs and we have begun the planning work necessary to contract for these additional ships. As with all equipment procurement programmes, the cost and schedule are set at the main investment decision, and we have not yet reached that decision point.
