The below Parliamentary question was asked by Lord Turnberg on 2015-11-10.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their assessment of the situation of Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty.

    Baroness Anelay of St Johns

We continue to engage with the Government of Iraq on the welfare of the residents of Camp Liberty. Our Embassy in Baghdad regularly raises this issue with the Government of Iraq and we support the UN calls for more to be done to protect residents, but remain of the view that the Iraqi government is responsible for security at the camp.

Officials from our Embassy in Baghdad visited the camp on 28 April to assess living conditions, which the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq have judged to be well in excess of basic humanitarian standards. Trucks containing food, medicine and diesel fuel continue to routinely enter the camp.

Owen Thompson – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Owen Thompson on 2015-12-07.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, if he will make it his policy to ensure that universal credit claimants are routinely asked if they require the alternative paying arrangement in order to protect vulnerable women and children from experiencing financial abuse.

    Priti Patel

Work coaches already assess claimants’ situations on a case by case basis. At the initial interview, they discuss Personal Budgeting Support and asses the claimaint’s need for alternative payment arrangements (APA). The work coach maintains an on-going conversation with the claimant at subsequent interviews, to ensure they are happy with the arrangements.

We have the facility to split payments to members of the household where necessary.

Work coaches can signpost vulnerable claimants to further help and support where necessary.

Michael Tomlinson – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Communities and Local Government

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Michael Tomlinson on 2015-12-10.

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what proportion of green belt land in the Dorset County Council area has been redesignated in the last five years.

    Brandon Lewis

The Department does not hold information centrally on the amount or type of land held by community land trusts.

The Department’s annual Green Belt statistics monitor the amount of land designated as Green Belt in England and any changes to the designated area since the previous year. The statistics record the change by local planning authority.

Of the local planning authorities for which information was requested, the following have made changes to the Green Belt in the last five years:

East Dorset reduced the area of designated Green Belt in 2014-15 by 160 hectares to 16,720 hectares, a reduction of 1 per cent; and

Purbeck increased the area of designated Green Belt in 2012-13 by 460 hectares to 8,200 hectares, an increase of 6 per cent.

  • Alasdair McDonnell – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

Alasdair McDonnell – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Alasdair McDonnell on 2015-11-10.

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what steps the Government plans to take to ensure that uncertainty about the outcome of the EU referendum does not affect inward investment in Northern Ireland.

    Mr David Gauke

The Government has a clear mandate to improve Britain’s relationship with the rest of the EU, and to reform the EU so that it creates jobs and increases living standards for all its citizens. As the Prime Minister has made clear, this is about providing the certainty and reform that businesses have asked for. The CBI and BCC have come out to say they support the reform agenda the Prime Minister is seeking to deliver.

As the Chancellor of the Exchequer has noted, the best outcome for the UK economy is that we achieve major economic reform of the EU. The Prime Minister is focused on success: he believes he can and will succeed in reforming and renegotiating our relationship with the EU and campaigning to keep the UK in the EU on that basis.

  • Jonathan Reynolds – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

Jonathan Reynolds – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the HM Treasury

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Jonathan Reynolds on 2015-11-10.

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, by what process the Treasury determines whether an item of public spending should trigger a consequential payment to the devolved administrations under the Barnett formula.

    Greg Hands

The Barnett Formula determines changes to the block grant funding allocated to the devolved administrations by the UK Government in relation to departmental spending within Departmental Expenditure Limits.

Under the Formula, the Scottish Government, Northern Ireland Executive and Welsh Government receive a population-based proportion of changes in planned UK Government spending on comparable services in England, where those services correspond to devolved responsibilities in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

  • Angus Brendan MacNeil – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

Angus Brendan MacNeil – 2015 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Energy and Climate Change

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Angus Brendan MacNeil on 2015-12-10.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, what the change in the number of jobs in the UK solar industry has been since the Summer Budget 2015; and if she will make a statement.

    Andrea Leadsom

The Government proposed changes to the feed-in tariff scheme (FITs) as part of the FIT review, on which we consulted widely between 27th August and 23rd October. Part of the purpose of that consultation was to gather views on the broader economic impact of the proposals. The actual impact on the sector will, of course, depend on the options taken forward after all responses to the consultation have been considered. We intend to publish a Government response as soon as possible.

The ONS has published first estimates of the UK’s ‘Low Carbon and Renewable Energy Economy’1 based on 2014; further information from this survey on sub-sectors including solar PV jobs will be published in 2016.
