Philip Davies – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Communities and Local Government

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Philip Davies on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what guidance his Department has given to local authorities on dealing with trees that are subject to a preservation order.

    Nick Boles

In March we issued new web-based planning guidance on the Tree Preservation Order system. It is available at http://planningguidance.planningportal.gov.uk/blog/guidance/tree-preservation-orders/.

  • Tom Greatrex – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

Tom Greatrex – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Education

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Tom Greatrex on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what estimate he has made of his Department’s consumption in kWh of (a) gas and (b) electricity in each month since June 2010; and what the cost of such consumption has been in each such month.

    Elizabeth Truss

The Department for Education has cut its annual energy bill by £1.4m since 2009-10 through reduced energy consumption, and has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 38% in the same period.

Emission reductions from energy use have largely been achieved through low and no cost energy efficiency measures, estate rationalisation (by using space more efficiently and co-locating with other organisations), and by operating our remaining buildings even more efficiently.

The Department’s monthly gas and electricity consumption and associated costs since June 2010 are set out below.

Maria Eagle – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Maria Eagle on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether his Department (a) has funded or (b) plans to fund badger vaccination against bovine TB in this calendar year.

    George Eustice

In April 2013, as part of the Government’s Strategy for achieving Officially Bovine Tuberculosis Free Status for England, the Secretary of State announced new support for privately led vaccination initiatives in the Edge Area. Building on ongoing work with stakeholders, including a key workshop held on 24 June, a new scheme will be launched shortly and will offer financial and other support, such as training and advice. Announcements about the future of the existing Badger Vaccination Fund, which has been available since 2012 and has offered more limited support, will also be made in due course. The total funds offered will be dependent on demand.

    Notes:

    1. Finished Consultant Episode (FCE): Both tables show FCEs. An FCE is a continuous period of admitted patient care under one consultant within one healthcare provider. FCEs are counted against the year in which they end. The figures do not represent the number of different patients, as a person.

    2. The data should not be described as a count of people as the same person may have been admitted on one or more occasion.

    3. †Providers that are not based in England have been removed, and therefore the national totals may not be equal to the sum of the regional totals.

    4. To protect patient confidentiality, figures between 1 and 5 have been replaced with “*” (an asterisk). Where it was still possible to identify figures from the total, additional figures have been replaced with "*”.

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Andy Sawford on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many (a) Red incidents and (b) Amber incidents have occurred at each Immigration Removal Centre in each of the last four years.

    Karen Bradley

Incidents in the detention estate are reported in accordance with Detention
Services Order (DSO) 12/2008. Incidents are classified according to their
seriousness as red, amber or green.

Examples of the types of red or amber incidents are given in the DSO. Red
incidents are generally those relating to serious disturbances and/or fires
within a centre. Amber incidents may be those involving threats to the centre,
external demonstrations, or co-ordinated food or fluid refusal.

This data has been collected by different business areas in the Home Office

Philip Davies – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Ministry of Justice

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Philip Davies on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what the ratio of prison officers to inmates in prisons in England and Wales was, by category of prison, in each of the last five years.

    Andrew Selous

Staffing levels are being reviewed prison by prison as part of a ‘benchmarking approach’. Benchmarking has been agreed with the unions and the NAO has commented that the wider strategy for the prison estate is the most coherent and comprehensive for many years. It delivers efficiencies while ensuring that public sector prisons operate safely, decently and securely. Benchmarking optimises the skills of staff by introducing new ways of working and puts all prison officers in prisoner facing roles.

The information requested has been placed in the library and extends the table provided to the honourable member for Tooting on 4 Mar 2014, Official Report, 805W. The tables include both public and private sector establishments. Figures are not however comparable across public and private sector establishments. There is no comparison within Private Sector Prisons for Prison Officer Specialists. Functions carried out by badged officers vary, particularly across private prisons, relating to whether functions are civilianised, contracted out, or performed by badged officers.

    Mr Robert Goodwill

The Highways Agency will be undertaking a review of the recently published data for 2013 to identify any trends or causation factors that may help to determine what improvements can be made to reduce deaths on the Agency’s motorway network in England. Motorways in Scotland and Wales are a devolved matter and not for the Department of Transport to lead on.

Chris Bryant – 2014 Parliamentary Question to the Department for Work and Pensions

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Chris Bryant on 2014-06-26.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, if he will estimate the cost to the public purse of extending entitlement to funeral payments to all claimants of universal credit once universal credit has been fully rolled out.

    Steve Webb

The additional cost of extending entitlement to Funeral Payments to all Universal Credit claimants who satisfy all the relevant criteria once Universal Credit is fully rolled out would be around £1.5 million per annum.
