To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what funding his Department provides for Local Safeguarding Children Boards.

Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) are funded by contributions from the local authority, Primary Care Trust, police and other agencies, with the largest contribution coming from the local authority. It is important that agencies work together to agree budgets locally and prioritise spending in response to local needs and issues.
The Department for Education provided the Association of Independent LSCB Chairs with funding of £240,000 between September 2012 and March 2014 to support the leadership of LSCBs in ensuring the effectiveness of local safeguarding arrangements. We will provide them with a further £130,000 in this financial year as they move towards self-sustainability.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what figures he holds on the life expectancy of men with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer.

The Government’s Mandate to NHS England sets out an ambition to make England one of the most successful countries in Europe at preventing premature deaths from all cancers, including prostate cancer.
Cancer indicators in the NHS Outcomes Framework and the Public Health Outcomes Framework will help NHS England to assess progress in improving cancer survival and mortality for men with prostate cancer.
Data related to men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer is not collected to permit the calculation of a reliable figure for average life expectancy.
However, Cancer Research UK has estimated that men with advanced, incurable prostate cancer treated in trials or under drug access schemes at the Royal Marsden Hospital survived on average 41 months, compared to between 13 and 16 months 10 years ago.

The Secretary of State negotiated successfully in the European Council of Agriculture Ministers to secure powers to implement CAP reform in the UK at a territorial level. The responsibility for delivery of direct payments under CAP reform therefore rests with each territorial administration. However, Defra Ministers regularly discuss the implementation of CAP reform with their devolved administration counterparts and officials from all four territorial administrations meet frequently to discuss implementation, share best practice and address UK-level and cross-border issues.

Since the abduction of the Nigerian school girls on 14 April, we have focused our efforts on working with the Nigerian government to locate and secure the release of the girls. We have discussed the issue with officials from counterpart members of the UN Security Council in New York. On 7 May, I spoke with UN Special Representatives (SR), Zainab Bangura (UN SR for Sexual Violence) and Leila Zeroughi (UN SR for Children and Armed Conflict), to discuss what more the UN can do to help.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if he will review the effectiveness of current legislation on banned breeds of dog.

The Government has introduced new legislation to tackle irresponsible dog ownership, including extending the criminal offence of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control to all places, increasing the maximum penalties for allowing a dog to become dangerously out of control and ensuring that the new measures to deal with anti-social behaviour will include such instances when they involve a dog. As announced on 6th February 2013, Defra is looking at making changes to the arrangements for seizure and kennelling of suspected dangerous dogs but there are noplans to review the effectiveness of the restrictions on keeping certain types of dogwhich are specifically bred for fighting.
