    Mr. J. T. Huddart, aged 38, is a school-piaster. A native of North Shields, he joined the Merchant Service and has a second mate’s certificate. Leaving the sea he became a teacher and entered the service of the Brighton Education Committee. During the war he served on the Northern Patrol, in Norway and at Cherbourg. He was at Singapore, where he made a last-minute escape in a dinghy. In East Africa later he was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander.

He has had a long service in the R.A.F., and served in the Army and the R.F.C. in the first world war, retiring in 1946. He formed the first R.A.F.V.R. squadron in 1937. He has financial interests in civil aviation and was a member of the Labour Party group on that subject. He belongs to the Fabian Society. He was elected as one of the two Labour members for Derby in 1945.

Since 1941, he has been a member of Manchester City Council.
