    Mr. S. Wood, a City advertising specialist, aged 53, was educated at Cheltenham Grammar School. He is an authority on market research and the marketing problems of industry. He has had a long association with the Liberal Party, having been chairman of the party publicity committee, and is a member of the executive committee of the council. At one time he was treasurer of the Home Counties Liberal Federation and later chairman.

    Mr. Anthony Marlowe, K.C., who is 45, represented Brighton and Hove since 1941, when he was returned unopposed in a by-election. Called to the Bar in 1928, he joined the Army in 1939, was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in 1942 and served on the staff of the Judge Advocate-General. He is the son of the late Mr. Thomas Marlowe, a former editor of the Daily Mail, and is married to a daughter of Sir Patrick Hastings.

He was elected M.P. for Wembley North in 1945.

In the war he was an R-A.O.C. major in the Rhine Army and now commands the R.A.O.C. 50th Infantry Division, T.A.
