    Mr. A. Anderson, born in 1888, and educated at Pulteneytown Academy and Edinburgh University, where he took his M.A., was a school teacher for 30 years. He was a local councillor for 16 years, and during the war acted as convener of civil defence. He has been a member of several Parliamentary delegations abroad. He won Motherwell for the Labour Party in 1945.

    BIOGRAPHY :

    Sir Basil Neven-Spence was born in 1888, and in 1911 graduated from Edinburgh University M.B., Ch.B. Joining the R.A.M.C. in the same year, he was seconded to the Egyptian Army and the Sudan Government. He served throughout the 1914-18 war, mostly in the Middle East, and in 1924 he returned to England as a specialist physician to Aldershot Command. Three years later he retired from the Army, and in 1935 entered Parliament for Orkney and Shetland, and retained the seat in 1945. He was knighted in 1945, and is a vice-Lieutenant of Shetland.

    Mr. A. Woodburn, appointed Secretary of State for Scotland in 1947, is a native of Edinburgh. He was elected to Parliament in 1939, and during the war – time Government was Parliamentary private secretary to the Secretary for Scotland. In 1945 he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply. Born in 1890, he went to Heriot Watt College, and subsequently spent 25 years in engineering and ironfounding administration, specializing in languages and costing. Author and lecturer on economics, he has been president of the National Council of Labour Colleges, and secretary of the Scottish Labour Party.

    BIOGRAPHY :

    Sir Percy Harris, who is 73, first elected to Parliament for Harborough in 1916-18, represented S.W. Bethnal Green from 1922 to 1945. For 35 years he has served on the L.C.C. and after the 1949 elections was the only Libera on the council. Educated at Harrow and at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, he was called to the Bar in 1899. He was Chief Whip of the Parliamentary Liberal Party from 1935 to 1945, and deputy-leader in the war-time Parliament, and also chairman of the House of Commons All-Party Panel, and treasurer of the Interparliamentary Union.

    Mr. C. F. H. Gough, born at Kasauli, India, was educated at Cheam School, Osborne, and Dartmouth. After serving three years in the Royal Nayy, he took up farming and horse-breeding in India in 1920. Returning to England in 1922, he became associated with Lloyd’s and joined the Territorial Army. He won the M.C. in 1943 while commanding 1st Airborne Reconnaissance Squadron. He was taken prisoner at Arnhem, escaped and joined ‘he Americans in Bavaria in 1945. He is a director of six companies.
