    Maj. W. H. P. Gardiner, who was born in Co. Kerry, has developed one of the largest herds of pedigree pigs in the county at his home near Droitwich. He was educated at Abbey College, Co. Tipperary, and Wellington Cadet College, India. He was commissioned in 1920 and served in the Indian Army. During the last war he held four staff appointments with the Sind Independent Brigade and was commandant of the Indian War Dog Training Centre. He has many trophies for horsemanship.

    Mr. Dingle Foot, who was born in Plymouth in 1905, is a son of Mr. Isaac Foot. He was called to the Bar when he was 25, and practises on the Western Circuit. In 1931 he was elected M.P. for Dundee, a constituency which he represented for 14 years. In Mr. Churchill’s war-time Government he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Warfare. He was present at the San Francisco Conference which framed the United Nations Charter.

    Mr. G. A. Brown, aged 34, won Belper in 1945. He began his working life as a shop assistant, and later became a full-time official of the Transport and General Workers’ Union. He was Parliamentary private secretary to the Minister of Labour until 1947, and afterwards with the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Later he became joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture. He served on the Hertfordshire War Agricultural Committee.

    Mr. E. B. Wakefield, born in 1903, was educated at Haileybury and Cambridge, and in 1927 entered the Indian Civil Service. He served in several Indian States as Chief Minister, and in 1946-47 worked under Lord Wavell and Lord Mountbatten. He is a brother of Sir W. W. Wakefield, and holds the bronze medal of the Royal Humane Society for saving life from drowning in 1933.

    Viscount Lambton, aged 27, is the heir to the Earl of Durham. During the war he served for a time in The Hampshire Regiment, but was invalided out. He then took up war work in a Wallsend factory. In 1945 he was chairman of the Young Conservative organization in the northern area, comprising Northumberland, Durham, and Cumberland, and he was a member of Durham County Council from 1947 to 1949, when he did not seek re-election. He was educated at Harrow.
