Knife related homicides have fallen to their lowest recorded level in 35 years, according to figures highlighted by the Home Office. The Government said knife enabled homicides had decreased by 26 per cent during its period in office, while overall knife crime had fallen by 11 per cent since the general election.
More than 14,500 knives and offensive weapons have been surrendered through Home Office funded bins since July 2025. Items collected include machetes, swords, zombie style knives, ninja swords and kitchen knives. A further 783 weapons were handed in through a mobile surrender van operated during a dedicated scheme last summer.
New surrender bins are being introduced in South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, adding to locations in London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands. The mobile van is also due to visit sites in the West Midlands and 24 London boroughs. The Government has set a target of halving knife crime over ten years and said further policing, prevention and surrender measures would continue.
