Fifteen candidates will contest the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary by election on 8 October, according to the nominations published by Camden Council. The election follows the resignation of former prime minister Sir Keir Starmer as the constituency’s MP earlier in September.
Labour has selected Sagal Abdi-Wali, while the Conservatives will be represented by Ewan Cameron. Peter Newman will stand for Reform UK, Zack Polanski for the Green Party and Patrick Thomas Stillman for the Liberal Democrats. The other candidates include George Galloway for the Workers Party, Briony Anne Lonbay Kapoor for Rejoin EU, Jonathan Silberman for the Communist League and several representatives of smaller parties or independents.
Labour has represented the constituency since it was created in 1983, and Starmer retained it at the 2024 general election with 48.9 per cent of the vote and a majority of 11,572. The contest will provide an early electoral test for the new political leadership, although the result of one constituency cannot reliably establish a national trend.
