  • Philip Davies – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Home Office

Philip Davies – 2016 Parliamentary Question to the Home Office

The below Parliamentary question was asked by Philip Davies on 2016-09-13.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many foreign national offenders were released without being considered for deportation by (a) sex, (b) ethnicity and (c) country of origin in 2006.

    Mr Robert Goodwill

The breakdown by sex of the 1013 foreign national offenders who were identified in 2006 as having been released without consideration for deportation is shown in the following table:

    Gender

    Number of foreign national offenders

    Male

    933

    Female

    80

    Total

    1,013

The Home Office publishes quarterly statistics on the number of foreign national offenders that have been released without consideration, including the breakdown of the current status of the 2006 cohort, within the Immigration Statistics release on the GOV.UK website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/historical-interest-transparency-data-august-2016

The Home Office is not able to provide the information requested regarding ethnicity and country of origin as this information is not held centrally and cannot be disaggregated from data held electronically. To provide this information would require a manual check of electronic and paper records, which would be at disproportionate cost.

    Mark Lancaster

There are currently no plans to restore War Widows Pensions to those who had surrendered it on re-marriage or cohabitation, however, I remain sympathetic to the circumstances of this group of widows and have asked Ministry of Defence officials to continue to consider potential options given the financial and legal considerations we are faced with.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment he has made of the potential effect of changes to the severe disability premium on young carers.

    Justin Tomlinson

The Government has no plans to make changes to the existing Severe Disability Premium which is available in means-tested benefits such as Income Support. It is not a qualifying condition for an award of Carer’s Allowance that the person being cared for is entitled to the Severe Disability Premium. Neither Carer’s Allowance nor Universal Credit (which also contains an additional amount for carers) are available to claimants aged under 16.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the potential effect of a British exit from the EU on the international legal enforceability of protected UK food names.

    George Eustice

We have not made an assessment of the potential effect of a British exit from the EU on the international legal enforceability of protected UK food names.

Separately, the Government is taking steps to achieve a significant increase in the number of UK food products covered by the EU’s protected food names scheme. We continue to exert pressure on the European Commission to secure wider international recognition of these products, as well as our wines and spirits drinks that are protected by Geographical Indications, in the context of EU bilateral trade negotiations.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the suitability of alternative travel options for passengers and employees travelling to and from Gatwick Airport in the event that the Brighton Mainline is out of service.

    Claire Perry

No formal assessment has been carried out by the Department, however Network Rail and the rail operator are required to work together in the event of disruption on the Brighton Main Line to ensure that passenger needs are catered for. Alternative travel options are put in place for planned engineering works, and these worked well during the Christmas period last year when extensive engineering work took place. The rail industry is required to have contingency plans in place for disruptive events.
