A past president of Cheltenham Liberal Association and of the Women’s Liberal Association.

    Mr. D. L. Lipson was M.P. for Cheltenham from 1937 until the dissolution. He is a former master of Cheltenham College and afterwards was in charge of a private school. He was born in 1886, and was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Sheffield, and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. From 1935 to 1937 he was mayor of Cheltenham, and is an alderman of the town and of Gloucestershire County Council.

    Mr. A. P. L. Barber, son of the secretary-director of a Doncaster works, is 29. He went to France in 1939 with a Doncaster Territorial unit and was at Dunkirk. Later, he was a pilot in the R.A.F. and was captured by the Germans. He was mentioned in dispatches for his part in escapes from the prison camp, and while a prisoner took a law degree with first-class honours through the International Red Cross. Awarded a State grant to Oxford and an Inner Temple scholarship, he is practising as a barrister.

A former Labour Whip and junior Lord of the Treasury, he became Minister of Transport in 1945.

He was elected to Greenwich Borough Council, 1932, and became leader of the council, ‘ “43 ; also a member of Metropolitan Borough Standing Joint Committee and a Commissioner of the Public Works Loan Board. In the last Parliament he was Parliamentary private secretary to Mr. Wilmot when Minister of Supply.
