    Mr. C. Jackson is 27 and lives in London. Educated at Tewkesbury Grammar School, he served during the war in India, the Middle East, Italy, and Germany, and has since studied law at Oxford and taken a degree in jurisprudence. While at Oxford, he was secretary of the Labour Club, treasurer of the Union, and secretary of the University Law Society. A member of the Oxford University debating team which toured South Africa, Rhodesia, and Kenya, he also led a British team to India, Pakistan, and Ceylon under the British Council, and has just returned from a debating tour for the English Speaking Union in the United States and Canada.

He enlisted in the R.N.V.R. in 1942, and was demobilized with the rank of lieutenant-commander. He was born in 1901.

He was appointed a Conservative whip in 1948, and last year was made Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire.

In the later years of the war he had a farm near Totnes.

    Brig. C. H. M. Peto comes of a family with many Parliamentary associations, his father, grandfather, and brother having been members. He entered Parliament for the old Barnstaple division in 1945. Educated at Harrow, he was commissioned as a Regular Army officer in 1918 and saw much service in the last war, becoming chief liaison officer to the allied contingents on Field-Marshal Montgomery’s staff. He has been chairman of the Conservative Party Disability Pensions Committee. In the last Parliament he introduced a Bill for the protection of animals from cruelty.

    Mr. R. F. Crouch is a farmer and comes from a farming family which has been connected with North Dorset for 300 years. He has been a member of the county executive of the Wilts and Dorset branch of the National Farmers’ Union. From 1939, he was a member of the Machinery Committee of the Wilts War Agricultural Executive Committee, and introduced mechanical corn growing to Wiltshire.
