BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. J. Coward, aged 44 and a seaman, is assistant secretary of the Merseyside Communist Party. He has been prominent in labour disputes among seamen and dockers. He fought with the International Brigade in Spain and was captured and sentenced to 30 years’ forced labour, but escaped. During the war he was a gun layer in the Royal Navy, serving in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
