BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. W. R. Blyton, born 1899, went to an elementary school and then worked in the mines. He was chairman of his lodge from 1928 to 1942, then secretary for three years, and four times a member of the executive of the Durham Miners’ Association. From 1921 to 1945 he served on the Court of Referees, and for 10 years was a member of the South Shields council, being chairman of the education and electricity committees.
