Mr. M. Janis was taken prisoner of war at Singapore and held by the Japanese for three and a half years, working on the Siam railway and being later transferred to Japan, where he became a liaison officer and interpreter. Now aged 37 and a leather goods merchant, he began life as a shop assistant.
