BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. David Kirkwood was member for the old Dumbarton Burghs division since 1922, and in spite of his 78 years is still an active worker for Clydeside, with which he has been long associated. Educated at Parkhead Public School, he was trained as an engineer and for many years was recognized as the engineers’ leader in Scotland. He was on Glasgow Town Council for four years before entering Parliament. He was a strong advocate of the Government financial support for building the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth. In 1948 he was made a Privy Councillor.
